The Site
 Dragonfly.nu is my on again off again, "What do I want to do on the web", mess. I taught myself HTML 10+ years ago and felt that I always need some sort of web presence. Don't ask me why because I don't know either. In its current form, I am using this site to display my attempts at art. I have not kept up with the current HTML and CSS trends, so my layouts tend to stay very simple and easy to code. All graphics, unless otherwise noted, are of my own making.

The Art
 Aside from the pages marked "Pencil" and "Digitally Colored", most of my art is done using Poser. I had a desire to create art for years, but never could hone my drawing ability. I am a very impatient person and wanted a more instant gratification. Poser isn't necessarily instant gratification. It still takes lots of time, effort and skill to create nice art. I just get to bypass the frustrating aspects of drawing and dive right in to compositing. It isn't instant art but art more akin to our digital age.

My other favorite art tool is Photoshop for postworking my renders. I also utilize various free 3d terrain programs to use as backgrounds, or even stand alone art. Bryce and Vue are my current favorites, but I'll try out any software that offers to bring something new to my 3d toolset.

The Artist, Candace
 I am a stay-at-home mother in her early 30s. I generally refer to myself as a nerd masquerading as a geek. I am hugely into fantasy, sci-fi and horror. I have an immense set of hobbies and a wonderful husband that patiently supports them all. My two children, husband, two cats and one dog keep me very busy. Yet, I always find time for art or one of my other millions of hobbies. If I am ever bored, it is because I am just not trying.

Along with art, I am an avid reader. My favorite book is The Thirteen Clocks by James Thurber. My favorite writer is Tad Williams. I can easily recommend anything he has ever written because anything he puts to paper is brilliant.

I enjoy nature and try to give back by keeping a nice garden. I'm not so great at it, but it gives me a lot of joy. I love flowers, but my true love is trees. I revere them to the point that it is almost religious. Insects are another mild obsession of mine. As a young child I was given the nickname Candibug. I could spend forever watching a bug go about its daily business. Some of my favorites are dragonflies, butterflies, ladybugs and praying mantises. Another favorite of mine is the mayfly. At night, their tails look like a long pair of skinny legs. Through the glow of a light, they remind me of little fairies flitting about.

Another time consuming hobby of mine is gaming. Having a Playstation console in my dorm was how my husband and I met. I don't play nearly as much as I used to, and most of my game time is spent playing something multi-player with my children. If I ever get blessed private time, I generally only play RPGs. Of course, I'll play anything that is fun, but I enjoy the escapism that a good RPG provides. My favorite video game is Legend of Mana, but I have a huge list of other close contenders. My gaming obsession could be given its own website. I also have a very old and never updated fansite to Lisa Garland from the original Silent Hill.

Around the web, I usually go by the screenames Astarte or Lumineux. While my full name is Candace, most people call me Candi.
